Motorcycle Safety

Helmets saved the lives of nearly 1,900 motorcyclists in 2017. Protect yourself – if you’re riding, always wear a helmet 🏍️.

Be informed! 📖 Driving a car and riding a motorcycle require different skills and knowledge 🧠. Take the class, get the proper endorsement, and ride safely 🏍️ 💨.

It’s NEVER safe to DRINK 🍻 and RIDE 🏍️

Being seen 👀🏍️ = Being safe ✔️. Wear a DOT-compliant helmet and high-visibility gear that protects your body. Your arms and legs should be completely covered, boots and shoes should be high enough to cover your ankles, and wearing gloves protects your hands and provides a better grip.

Check UP ⬆️ before you shift DOWN ⬇️. Is your motorcycle maintenance up to speed? 🏍️ 💨 Run through this checklist before you hit the road ✔️:

Check your tire pressure and tread depth, brakes, headlights, signals, and fluid levels.

Look for signs of oil or gas leaks under your motorcycle.
🧳 Secure and balance your cargo load — make adjustments to accommodate the extra weight.

Ride SMART — not IMPAIRED 🏍️ 🍺. It’s NEVER worth the risk ❌.

Motorcycle helmets aren’t one size fits all! Different types of riders need different types of helmets. Learn how to find the right one for your next ride at NHTSA.gov/Motorcycles.

Don’t run from commitment. COMMIT to safe riding 🏍️ ✅. Complete a motorcycle rider education and training course for a safer riding experience.

Practice! Practice! Practice! Being comfortable operating your motorcycle contributes to a safer ride in traffic 🏍️🚦.

When was the last time your MOTORCYCLE had a CHECK-UP? 🏍️🩺 Get your ride the proper check-up it needs through routine maintenance. Learn more today at https://www.nhtsa.gov/road-safety/motorcycles.
